Once, Nick Faldo was a carpet fitter, and learning the game of golf, and from there, he rose to be the number 1 golfer in the world for an astonishing 98 weeks. Now, Nick Faldo has been knighted in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list for services to golf.

In a 9 year stretch between 1987 and 1996, Faldo dominated the world of golf, winning more majors than any other golfer, and winning 3 Masters and 3 Open titles. The third Masters was the memorable victory in 1996, where he trailed Greg Norman by 6 strokes going into the last round, but shot an incredible 67 to turn the 6 shot deficit into a 5 shot victory.

With his knighthood, Faldo becomes only the 2nd golfer to be knighted, following Henry Cotton, the English golfer who also won 3 Opens, and Faldo believes “To stand alongside such esteemed company is incredible”.
