There are three major categories of golf balls available today. At the top end of the market, the premium golf balls are designed to maximise the control and feel that a players will get into and around the green with a minimal loss of distance.

At the budget end of the market, manufacturers have made distance balls that are suited to the mid to higher handicap golfer where distance is a priority over spin and control.

In between we have golf balls that display distance and spin characteristics. There not as long as pure distance balls and they don't spin as much as premium golf balls but they are somewhere in between.

The top ball manufacturers are Titleist, Callaway Golf, Srixon, Maxfli and Nike. Great value balls can be found from these manufacturers and also Wilson Staff and Top Flite.
